Normally, I wouldn’t consider myself to be a huge fish person. I rarely eat it. But here in Spain, I am putting an effort in to try their different dishes ( including some fish ) to try to experience as much Spain culture as I can.
However, I like knowing whether r not something is actually fish before eating it.
Here in Spain, they seem to LOVE to hide fish in different things….
Which is not really fun for me.
I have been shocked ( and not in a good way ) by finding out something secretly has fish in it…
For example, who would have thought that some olives here would have sardines hidden in them? Well not me, that’s for sure.
Eating something and expecting one flavor and then getting a totally different ( non-preffered ) flavor is not something I really enjoy.
So biting into something, like an olive, and expecting it to be only an olive and then finding out the hard way that there’s a sardine in the middle…. no thank you.
Or eating what you think is mashed potatoes and then finding out it is pureed potato and fish…. YUM ( not ).
Or eating some weird potatoes and egg concoction and realizing there’s hidden canned tuna in the middle….
Or trying someones homemade deviled eggs and finding out that there’s fish in it…
Or buying what you think are fruit/jelly filled pastries but PSYCH it’s filled with fish… LIKE WHO DOES THAT and who doesn’t even put it on the label / packaging??? My morning was ruined after that one thats for sure.
I have found all this out first hand. I have expected all these things to not have fish and then SURPRISE! IT’S FISH!
I have many more examples but I think you get the point.
This is not a surprise I want but I seem to get it time and time again. Yay for me….
Anyways, I’m off to dinner now. Wish me luck that everything I eat is exactly what I think it is and that there are no surprises! Bye!
