I. Love. Churros.
Churros could be considered their own food group in my opinion. They’re amazing.
But I am used to Mexican or American churros not Spanish churros.
Mexican or American churros are deep fried pastry covered in cinnamon and sugar…. aka heaven.
Spanish churros are completely different.
The fried pastry part is more or less the same. But that’s about the only similarity. Even the shape and consistency of the fried pastry is different. In Spain, they are bigger and less dense than their Mexican/American cousin.
There is no sugar and cinnamon added to the Spanish Churros but there is chocolate.
In Spain, you dip the churros into thick thick THICK chocolate.
I picture people taking a bar of chocolate and melting it down and putting it into a cup to dip their churros into.
Now, not being a big fan of chocolate myself, I don’t really enjoy dipping my churro into the thick chocolate.
So, I am always left with a cup full of chocolate that I didn’t use…. well jokes on me….
What do the Spaniards do with the extra / excess chocolate they didn’t use while dipping their churros into it?
They drink it.
They drink the thick melted down chocolate.
That is just too much for me. I don’t even like hot chocolate ( which as we all know is just milk with some chocolate ) and now I’m expected to drink a thick melted down chocolate bar from a cup. I can’t do it… its too much….
Picture this: you take a bar of semi-sweet chocolate and put the solid bar into a coffee cup. Then you put that in the microwave for a couple of minutes until its completely melted… and then you drink it.
It just…. doesn’t seem…. right? Right?
Now, don’t get me wrong, these churros are still very good! They’re just different than what we are used to. It’s kind of like eating funnel cake without the sugar. Then dipping it in chocolate. Not bad, not bad at all.
Anyways, I got churros on the brain so I’m going to go see if I can find some! Don’t worry, I’ll drink some chocolate for you! Bye!
