Da da da da da da BAT CAVE
Today I went on a hike to a bat cave.
Now this sounded like a fun new adventure! I had been told it was about a 2 mile hike from the cars to the bat cave. It was a nice easy hike where I got to take in and enjoy the beautiful countryside of Spain.
Once getting to the bat cave, we all had to put on latex gloves and grab a flash light. I’m not sure why I expected this to be a short trip into the cave, look around for a little bit and then come right back out – I was wrong. We probably hiked down 2 miles into this cave. And not just straight into this cave but DOWN into the cave. So just imagine having to walk / climb down into a pitch black cave with only a little hand held flashlight with bats flying around above you.
And incase you are wondering: ‘why would she need latex gloves?’. Well let me tell you. Bat caves are covered in bat poop! Yep, that’s right. You probably could have guessed that but not only is it everywhere but it is SLIPPERY. Very very very slippery – EWW!
So we ended up walking about 2 miles down slippery bat poop covered floors using little flash lights trying not to hit our heads on the ceiling of the cave while simultaneously looking out for bats. Great times. I would not recommend doing this if you are even a little bit claustrophobic.
This was definitely an interesting experience for sure. I walked into this cave thinking we’d just be in there for a few minutes but we were in there for over an hour. And all we did was climb to the bottom and climb back up but we were in there way longer than I expected. I had no idea it would be that deep of a cave and I was so shocked how it just kept going and going and going.
Also, I just want to say thank you to who ever thought to bring gloves. I love you.
Am I happy that I did this? Yes, I am so happy I did this it was a great experience with great people! Will I do it again? Probablyyyyyy not.
But after we came out of the bat cave we had to walk 2 miles back to the cars. We were able to enjoy the beautiful sunset on our way back.
Behind us was a vineyard with the moon slowly rising above it.
( If you look really closely you can slightly see the moon )
And in front of us was an amazing sunset.
These pictures do not do this sunset justice. In person, the sunset itself was very deep colors of orange, yellow and a little bit of red. There is a big lake on the horizon where the sunset was reflecting off the water but it isn’t really visible in the pictures. The open fields and olive trees. There are also some giant windmill like things out in the distance. I wish the pictures would do it more justice.
Overall, it was a great day with great people. I was able to make some great memories, do some things I wouldn’t normally do and see things I haven’t been able to see yet.
I would 100% recommend walking through the Spain countryside during sunset. Whether you should go into a bat cave or not is entirely up to you. Just know that bat caves are slippery and I would recommend knowing how deep the cave actually is before you start your journey.
Other than that thanks for keeping up with my life and see you next time!
